Those still learning the fundamentals will work as apprentices with more experienced staff to expand their skills in a variety of practical applications.
More experienced welders will be required to perform quality welds that need little attention from approving Quality Control inspectors, will exercise discipline in line, lead, and hose management, & maintain an orderly and clean workspace.
Fitter-Welders will support the fitting/build-out of structures, and participate in the complete welding process.
Welding Mechanics will operate and provide instruction for Fitter-Welders to operate shop equipment including ironworkers, drill presses, band saws, mag drills, burn table, and other fundamental fabrication equipment. The Structural Mechanic will also provide input on setting and meeting production schedules in the safest, most efficient way possible.
A strong work ethic and a team-player attitude is essential. Working safely and keeping the crew around you safe and engaged in best practices is paramount for all shop personnel.
Required Skills:
Strong skill set in various weld processes including Automatic Weld Processes and various positions is preferred; enthusiastic willingness to learn and support the learning of teammates is required.
All welders will need to demonstrate the ability to pass Complete Joint Penetration welds in various positions, interpret weld symbols & sizes, know weld profiles, determine weld zones per drawing specifications, and exhibit the discipline to stay within the confines of those interpretations. Weld Size and adherence is critical.
All welders must possess the physical ability to set up their equipment and operate within all confines of assigned Welding Procedure Specifications.
Welder-Fitters must also possess fundamental knowledge of weld shrinkage & distortion, strong mechanical aptitude, ability to read and interpret blueprints, good material handling practices, lay-out proficiency, and ability to burn, cut, produce quality weld preps, and strategically tack.
Welding Mechanics must also have experience with weld sequencing, build and handling strategies, product finishing, assembly, bolt torque methods, finish tolerances, and the capacity to take ownership of a weldment/product and see it through the entire fabrication process.
Although we primarily work with carbon steel, knowledge of stainless steel and aluminum will occasionally be necessary.
Hours & Breaks:
Shop employees will be scheduled for four consecutive day shifts Monday through Thursday.
Day shift begins at 5:00am and ends at 3:30pm. Swing shift begins at 3:30pm and ends at 1:30am.
Adjustments to the standard hours may be accommodated with adequate notice and coordination.
For each 10-hour work shift, employees are entitled to two 15 minute paid rest breaks and one 30 minute unpaid meal break free from work responsibilities.
